The 30 strong shortlist of the Tata-NEN Hottest Startup Awards is out – and not surprisingly many of the listed start-ups are either selling tech or using tech very fundamentally within their business. Clearly the barriers to market entry are perceived to be lower here – there’s also an expectation that the tech biz is low risk. Thats not surprising, given the many examples of successful IT entrepreneurs that dot our business landscape.
What’s also interesting is that more than 60% plan to target the Indian market, at least initially. One more sign, that the domestic market is coming of age, especially in the IT business?
But the most interesting entrepreneurship ideas though came in the non-tech category. My favourites:
SammaaN Foundation, which runs an organized cycle rickshaw operation. Service value-adds include mineral water and mobile re-charge
Ecomove, a start up in the pre revenue stage , which plans to run a bicyle rental service.
